On top of one of the castle towers is the small figure of the Laird's trumpeter Andrew Lammie who features in the local ballad - the bonnie lass of Fyvie. Legend has it that the miller of Tiftie had a daughter called Annie who fell in love with the Laird's trumpeter and that her father beat her to death because she would not give him up.
The Buchan district of Aberdeenshire is famous for local songs often referred to as Bothie Ballads because they were sung by the farm lads who lived in the Bothie's.
